Job Purpose

The Chedi El Gouna Hotel is looking for a Bar Supervisor responsible for helping the assistant bar manager in managing the bar as a successful independent profit center, supervising service and bartender, as well as helping guests within the bar to maximize guest satisfaction and food and beverage profitability as per standards set by Company.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensures that guests receive quality service by providing clear and understandable work directions for bar staff.
  • Supervises bartenders and waits staff, verifying that their workstations are stocked neat and orderly.
  • Ensures that the bar is ready for guests by checking the overall condition of the bar regularly.
  • Ensures that the bar premises is in neat and orderly condition at all times.
  • Is aware of the service sequence and corrects the wait staff and bartenders if necessary.
  • Provides guests with quality service by monitoring staff assignments and responsiveness.
  • Performs all service duties of the bar.
  • Coaches staff to achieve bar revenue goals.
  • Greets and seats guests, and makes sure that they receive prompt, courteous, and efficient service.
  • Keeps bar premises, Furniture Fixtures & Equipment (FF&E), silver, glass, porcelain, etc. clean and in good working order.
  • Approaches guests by suggesting cocktails, wine, or non-alcoholic beverages and recommending promotional items.
  • Actively pushes high-profit food and beverage items, and informs staff of such to increase sales.
  • Uses approved suggestive selling techniques to upsell products with a higher profit margin.
  • Maintains knowledge of bar inventory and wine selection to respond properly to guest questions.
  • Maintains a thorough knowledge of beverage recipes and mixing procedures.
  • Is able to entertain the guests with freestyle, mixology, and creating cocktails.
  • Is able to create new cocktails on the spot.
  • Has an extensive knowledge of cocktails and mocktails.
  • Informs guests of the last call.
  • Maintains proper bar cleanliness.
  • Assists in maintaining responsibility for the setup and cleanliness of the entire bar and adjoining lounge area at all times.
  • Arranges furniture in the bar area as needed.
  • Stocks all supplies, silverware, china, and glassware ordered by the bar management team.
  • Displays beverage selection in an attractive manner.
  • Ensures that the bar is stocked with “mise-en-place” and kept clean and tidy at all times.
  • Has a thorough knowledge of how to handle intoxicated individuals.
  • Ensures that bar guests receive their orders promptly and courteously.
  • Knows how to accurately record guest orders and serve beverage orders.
  • Ensures proper garnishing of drinks.
  • Checks periodically with guests to see if they would like anything else.
  • Processes guest checks accurately.
  • Has full knowledge of alcohol and liquor policies and regulations, and complies fully with them.
  • Maintains the bar reservation list, and checks the bar reservations list frequently during the shift.
  • Utilizes supervisory skills, effective communication, and motivation to maximize employee productivity and satisfaction.
  • Has a thorough understanding and knowledge of all food and beverage items on the menu and the ability to recommend Food & Beverage combinations and upsell alternatives.
  • Establishes correct cash handling procedures, and processes all guest orders through MICROS before any dish or food is served.
  • Assists in planning the bar's weekly working schedules to ensure that the bar is adequately staffed to handle the level of business.
  • Submits all guest/staff incident reports.
  • Reports “Lost & Found” items and handle them in accordance with the Policy & Procedures.
  • Attends work on time as scheduled.
  • Follows hotel grooming and dress standard.
  • Acquires a working knowledge of the hotel, in-house facilities, and local information to respond to guest questions in these areas as required.
  • Handles all food, beverage and operating equipment with care, in order to minimize breakage/wastage
  • Ability to rotate throughout each of the food & beverage outlets
  • Understands that business demands sometimes make it necessary to move employees from their accustomed shifts to other shifts.
  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in a timely and efficient manner in accordance with established company policies and procedures to achieve the overall objectives of this position.
  • Understands and strictly adhere to the Rules & Regulations established in the Employees Handbook and the Hotel’s policy on Fire, Hygiene, Health & Safety.
  • Ensures that all potential and real hazards are reported and rectified immediately.
  • Understands and strictly adheres to the Hotel’s Employee rules & regulations.
  • Reports for duty punctually wearing the correct uniform and name tag at all times.
  • Performs any other duties assigned to him/her by management.

Qualifications

  • High School Graduate or equivalent, preferably with a specialization in Hotel/Restaurant.
  • 3 years of experience as a Bar Captain/Supervisor in a five-star hotel.
  • Fluency in the local language.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Fluency in a third language is a plus.
